Solar power as a service: ease, predictability and affordable electricity without upfront investment

Loval Oy, a company specialising in customised heating and cooling solutions for various industries, chose Solarigo’s solar power as a service model. With solar power as a service, no upfront investment is required from the customer. Solarigo takes care of everything from the construction of the solar power plant to its operation and maintenance, while the customer only pays for the electricity generated by the plant.

With its own solar power plant, a company can generate renewable energy on-site, reduce electricity costs, and improve price predictability. It is also a concrete step towards more sustainable operations. Solar power as a service offers all these benefits without requiring any upfront investment.

Loval Oy, a provider of customised heating and cooling solutions for various industries, chose Solarigo’s solar power as a service model in 2025. Solarigo takes care of everything from construction to operation and maintenance, while Loval only pays for the electricity generated by the plant.

The solar power plant was installed on the roof of Loval’s production facilities in Loviisa, commissioned in 2024. The nearly 8,000-square-metre roof was fitted with 1,887 solar panels. Construction began in April 2025, and the plant was operational just two months later.

With a capacity of 827 kWp, the plant is expected to generate 741 MWh of electricity annually. Solar power currently covers around six per cent of the property’s electricity consumption. The plant reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 52 tonnes per year, equivalent to the amount absorbed by approximately 11 hectares of Finnish forest.

“This year, solar power will likely cover around eight per cent of our electricity consumption. Our electricity bills are lower because we generate our own energy and only pay for the electricity, without additional costs such as grid fees,” says Ossi Kivimäki, Process & Project Development Manager at Loval.

A clear and transparent partnership

The initial interest in solar power was driven by Loval’s goal of making its production more sustainable and reducing emissions. Sustainability is important to both Loval and its customers. Solarigo was selected as the project partner from several potential providers. Key factors in the negotiations included the initial electricity price and how it would develop over the years.

“We have the option to purchase the solar power plant when the time is right. Together with Solarigo, we created a clear overview showing what the purchase price would be each year. The entire process was very transparent and straightforward. Solarigo proved to be the best option by every measure,” Kivimäki says.

The solar power project required only a few hours of Loval’s own time. According to Kivimäki, communication throughout the project was excellent, the schedule was kept, and there were no delays. The project has received positive feedback throughout the company, including from the Group management. The solar power plant is also featured in Loval’s marketing communications.
