FAQ

What you need to know about solar power solutions

  1. Solar power is 100% renewable energy
  2. Significant savings on electricity costs
  3. Greater predictability of energy expenses in the long term
  4. Locally produced solar power increases energy independence
  5. Tangible climate actions provide a strong competitive advantage

A solar power plant is a profitable choice for any company committed to sustainability, especially those with high electricity consumption during daytime and summer months.

It is an excellent solution for energy-intensive industries such as machinery and metal, food production, and other manufacturing sectors. Solar also fits well with retail properties and other large-scale facilities with significant energy needs.

Whether fully owned or provided as a service, a solar power plant helps companies cut electricity procurement costs while serving as one of the clearest demonstrations of commitment to sustainability and emission-reduction goals.

We deliver the entire system on a turnkey basis. Design, permit applications, construction, and commissioning with inspections are all included in the delivery.

From you, we initially need the property address and hourly electricity consumption data in order to carry out an accurate solar assessment and prepare a proposal. For roof or wall installations, we also require building structure drawings to verify load-bearing capacity.

Together, we plan the site work so that the construction phase causes minimal disruption – allowing you to stay focused on your core business.

Typically, locally generated solar power covers 10–20% of a property’s annual electricity consumption. The rest is purchased from the grid as usual. You can also choose to source the remainder of your electricity as renewable energy from our sister company, Lumme Energia.

Electricity generated on-site with solar panels is exempt from transmission fees, and from electricity tax if annual production remains below 800 MWh. The cost of solar power is therefore compared against the combined price of grid electricity, transmission fees, and electricity tax.

It is also important to note that solar power is generated during daytime hours, when electricity spot prices are typically higher – meaning your self-produced solar energy offsets more expensive electricity on average.

Solar panels can be installed on flat and pitched roofs, on any roof surface, on walls, on level ground, on graded terrain, or even on slopes. With over 10 years of experience in diverse installation sites, our design and installation teams know how to choose the right solution for your property.

Yes – as long as the panels are installed and maintained properly. We ensure both fire and electrical safety. Our work is ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certified, and meets all requirements set by Finnish law.

We also train the customer in plant operation, prepare a rescue card for the local fire department, and provide all necessary safety markings.

The delivery time mainly depends on weather conditions (snow), permitting processes, and in some cases the time required for a structural analysis if the system is to be installed on a roof.

Typically, it takes around 3 months from order confirmation to solar production.

We handle all necessary permits with authorities and third parties on your behalf.

Typically, the local building authority requires an action permit, and in some cases a building permit. Large ground-mounted projects may require zoning changes. Fire authority requirements are taken into account already at the design stage. In addition, approval from the local grid operator is needed to connect the plant to the electricity network.

Solar power generation itself is 100% emission-free. Environmental impacts and emissions occur before production begins – for example in raw material extraction, equipment manufacturing, transportation, and installation.

The largest environmental load comes from the solar panels, which in Northern Europe generate the same amount of electricity emission-free in about 2–3 years as was required to produce them. Over their full lifetime, solar power ranks among the lowest-emission forms of electricity production.

The calculation of emission reductions is based on the average emission factor of Finland’s electricity production, as defined by Statistics Finland. In 2023, the emission factor was 89 kg CO₂ / MWh.

A typical commercial property (such as a supermarket) can reduce its CO₂ emissions by around 5–10 tons per year with a solar plant. Larger sites, like logistics centers and shopping malls, can usually cut 30–100 tons annually. Industrial sites can achieve even greater reductions – for example, our 10 MWp installation for Atria reduces CO₂ emissions at the company’s Nurmo plant by more than 800 tons every year.

Yes, it does. Finland’s solar irradiation levels are strong thanks to long summer days – for example, Southern Finland has similar irradiation to Northern Germany. Cooler air temperatures are also an advantage, as solar panel efficiency decreases when they overheat. In Finland, solar panels generate significant amounts of electricity from April to September.

The price of solar power is based on the construction costs of the solar plant and the chosen contract model. The price can either be linked to the electricity market price or set as a fixed rate for the entire contract period. In any case, electricity generated by a local solar plant can typically be priced very competitively.

Solar panels generate electricity from sunlight, which is fed into the building’s electrical system through inverters. Solar power is used alongside grid electricity, so there is no interruption in supply even when the sun isn’t shining.

Most of the solar panels used by Solarigo come from Asia, where the majority of the world’s solar panel production is located. In panel procurement, we apply the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition Solar Scorecard, which rates manufacturers on criteria such as environmental performance, responsibility, labor rights, and safety.

All our solar panel suppliers are Tier 1 manufacturers according to this scorecard. Mounting structures are sourced from Finland or elsewhere in Europe, while small hardware and cabling are purchased from Finnish suppliers.
