Sustainability for future generations

TT Gaskets has installed a solar power system at its gasket factory in Tampere for both strategic and sustainability reasons. The company recognized that, in addition to delivering high-quality sealing solutions, responsibility measures are increasingly valued as a positive signal when customers select suppliers. TT Gaskets invested in solar power because the company wants to carry out concrete sustainability actions itself, to the fullest extent possible.

Many of our external stakeholders have been openly pleased and impressed by our strong commitment to advancing sustainability and operating in line with our values.

Carbon neutrality without offsets

TT Gaskets aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2027. Importantly, the company’s goal is to reach carbon neutrality through its own actions without relying on offsetting. The company views sustainability investments as a significant and concrete way to contribute to the green transition while ensuring the realization of its long-term strategy.

Sustainability has become a strong focus in TT Gaskets’ customer discussions in recent years, and the company strives to be the greenest choice in its industry. Through its own responsibility-driven investments, TT Gaskets seeks to make a long-term strategic and environmental impact.

With solar energy, TT Gaskets has already reached a kind of maximum capacity: on sunny days the factory’s electricity demand is fully covered by solar, and on an annual basis solar provides about 30% of consumption. The investment has received positive feedback both from employees and external stakeholders. The solar plant is a concrete example of the company’s strong commitment to its environmental goals, and it is also easy to showcase. According to TT Gaskets’ experience, the solar plant also serves as a competitive advantage, since customers appreciate tangible sustainability solutions.

“Many of our external stakeholders have been openly pleased and impressed by our strong commitment to advancing sustainability and operating in line with our values,” adds Matti Järvinen, Quality, Lean and IT Director at TT Gaskets.

Implementation of the solar power project

When searching for a solar partner, TT Gaskets quickly identified Solarigo as a strong candidate. Solarigo’s solid references inspired initial confidence, and discussions about the potential project reinforced the positive impression. TT Gaskets was most actively involved in the definition phase of the project, while Solarigo managed the implementation on a turnkey basis.

Discussions began in October 2022, and the solar plant was installed in June–July 2023, with installation work taking around one month. Fast and flexible service, combined with open and regular communication, gave the client peace of mind and confidence that the project would be delivered as agreed.

“The cooperation with Solarigo was excellent throughout the project, and we encountered surprisingly few issues along the way. The noise level of the inverters was somewhat unexpected, but even this was smoothly resolved together with Solarigo by relocating the inverters to another room,” summarizes Järvinen.
