Solar power plants as part of the company’s strategy and sustainability

Reka Kaapeli’s sustainability goals led the company to consider solar energy as part of its broader green transition efforts. At the production facilities in Riihimäki and Keuruu, suitable wall areas were identified for local solar power production. In the competitive bidding process, Reka chose Solarigo for its best overall solution, considering cost efficiency, service, and domestic origin. At the same time, the rest of Reka’s electricity procurement was switched to CO₂-free electricity from Lumme Energia.

We have been very satisfied with Solarigo, and the service works well for us. It is particularly valuable to be able to see for ourselves how the solar plants generate clean electricity.

Solar power plants as part of the corporate strategy

Reka Kaapeli is committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and to making responsible choices in its business operations. Local solar power production at the Keuruu and Riihimäki plants emerged as a natural part of the company’s sustainability measures, and the solar plants have since become an integral part of Reka’s responsibility work. The solar plants were installed on the walls of Reka’s production facilities in 2020.

“The construction of the solar plants proceeded smoothly alongside our production operations, without any issues. We feel that implementing the solar plants has been a good step forward for us,” summarizes Reka Kaapeli’s Production Director, Anne Tillgren.

Since Reka’s solar plants are wall-mounted, they are highly visible, attracting a great deal of positive feedback both internally and from external stakeholders. Anne Tillgren has been pleased with Solarigo, and as a sign of this, Reka has even considered expanding the existing plants as part of its ongoing sustainability work.
