Positive experiences with the PPA contract model

Puuilo was searching for a partner to provide solar power solutions and became interested in Solarigo’s flexible solar plant as a service. Since Puuilo operates its stores as a tenant, the service model for solar plants seemed like a carefree and sensible solution. The first three solar power plants were installed in 2022, with more planned for the future.

Based on our experience, I would describe Solarigo as a reliable and good partner. Everything has gone as it should, and I would be glad to think we will continue cooperation in future projects in the same way.

Juha Saarela, CEO, Puuilo

Good experiences with solar power plants

Puuilo evaluated solar power partnerships both for financial and sustainability reasons. Solarigo’s PPA model stood out as an attractive and worry-free solution for a retail chain operating in rented properties. Under the model, Puuilo is committed to purchasing renewable solar power produced by Solarigo’s installations for as long as it operates in the property. For the first summer, three suitable locations were identified, and solar power plants tailored to each store’s electricity use were built. The projects proceeded as planned without causing any disruptions to Puuilo’s operations.

“I have been in touch with Solarigo a couple of times during the summer. We have confirmed project schedules and progress, but otherwise we haven’t had to do much at all, and there has been no disruption to our business. The service has worked exactly as it should,” says Puuilo’s CEO, Juha Saarela.

More solar power plants on the way

As the company grows, Puuilo has recognized that its environmental and social responsibility is increasing. Customers and stakeholders are asking more frequently about sustainability actions, and Puuilo has been pleased to respond with concrete measures such as purchasing renewable electricity, installing solar power plants, and implementing energy efficiency initiatives. With this growing responsibility, Puuilo plans to adopt additional solar power plants in the coming years.

“We open 3–4 stores every year, and each year there are new locations where building a solar power plant makes sense and is desirable,” explains Saarela.
