Project description
The Simo 70 MWp solar park is a project of Exilion Tuuli Ky, where Solarigo Systems Oy works as the project’s EPC constructor.
Simo’s solar park is Lapland’s first industrial solar park, and it will be one of the largest in Finland, boasting a 70-megawatt output capacity. The solar plant’s annual production is approximately 65,000 MWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of around 26,000 apartment buildings. The park will be connected to already existing Exilion wind turbines, forming a hybrid power plant that improves energy self-sufficiency and supports carbon neutrality goals. The solar park project area is about 70 hectares.
Solarigo Systems Oy is responsible for planning and implementing the project. Solarigo will also manage the maintenance of the solar park after completion. The solar park will feature approximately 120,000 solar panels, with a total project value of around 40 million euros.
The project has received investment support of 8.9 million euros from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment as part of the NextGeneration EU green transition funding.
The effects on nature have been considered by delimiting, for example, valuable wilderness areas outside the project. The park is estimated to be completed towards the end of 2025. For the municipality of Simo, the park generates significant real estate tax income, estimated at around € 250,000 per year.
Project progress
Q1/2024
Solarigo chosen as constructor
Renewable energy investor Exilion publishes the start of construction of its 70 MWp project during the spring. Solarigo Systems Oy has been selected as the designer and EPC constructor of the project.
Q2/2024
Site preparations
Solarigo removed the trees from the area. Land transfer work in the area started in April.
Q2/2025
Installation of mounting systems begins
The preparatory works of the solar park installation started in June 2024 with the installation of mounting systems. In the picture, the metal posts of the mounting systems are paled into the ground.
Q3/2024
Installation of solar panels begins
The installation of the Simo project’s 120,000 solar panels begins. Piling, rack installations, and panel installations are being carried out simultaneously at the site.
Q2/2025
Nearly 39 megawatts installed
The construction of the solar park is progressing on schedule, with several phases of work being carried out simultaneously on site. By May, 67,000 panels, or approximately 39 megawatts, had been installed.
Q4/2025
Mechanical installations completed and electricity production started
In Simo, the first megawatts have already been fed into the grid as we ramp up production. The solar park is undergoing commissioning, including system-level tests, control room validation, and automation checks to ensure everything operates seamlessly.
