Project description

Solarigo Systems Oy is investigating the conditions for establishing a solar park in Mäntyharju, approximately 10 kilometers northeast of the municipal center. The planned project area is currently about 50 hectares in size. The area is mainly commercial forest. Part of the forest area is in harvesting condition, and another part has been harvested recently. The planned solar park would have an output of approximately 37 MWp and produce around 32 GWh of renewable electricity annually, equivalent to the electricity consumption of, for example, 2,000 electrically heated detached houses. The project’s investment value is approximately 20 million euros.

The project is still in its early stages; no building permit or investment decision has been made at this point. Solarigo has initiated key studies required for the permitting process and has commissioned, among other things, a habitat and vegetation survey for the area. The site is also being assessed for important or potential habitats of protected and endangered species, as well as other ecologically valuable species. Additionally, a water management plan will be developed for the area.

After completing the studies, Solarigo’s goal is to apply for necessary building permits from the municipality. The solar park is expected to be in production by 2026 at the earliest.

When implemented, the project will have a local employment impact during construction, particularly in the earthworks and electricity sectors. Additionally, the municipality receives income from the power plant tax on the solar park. The solar park’s lifetime is approximately 35 to 40 years.

Q2/2024

Development

Solarigo has explored the possibility of implementing the park project in Mäntyharju. A preliminary study of the area was prepared in early 2024. During the initial research, possible connection points to the electricity grid, the local soil conditions, and peak usage times were investigated. The area is forest land, and part of it has already been logged.

Q2/2024

Land lease agreement

The land lease agreement was signed in May 2024.

Q3/2024 – Q2/2025

Permit processing and environmental assessments

A nature assessment study will be conducted in the project area. Important or potential habitats of protected and endangered species, as well as other noteworthy species, are also examined in the area. A watershed plan will also be made for the project area.

The permitting process was initiated immediately after the signing of the land lease agreement by ordering the environmental assessment required by the project. A public event was organized about the project in Mäntyharju on 19.2.25

A building permit is applied for once the planning permission application has been approved.
