Solarigo joins EU SUNVIBE project: new European inverter technology to be tested in Haapajärvi

Solarigo Systems Oy is participating in the EU-funded SUNVIBE project, which focuses on developing next-generation solar PV inverters based on European expertise. The four-year programme aims to strengthen technological development within the EU and bring more efficient and flexible solutions to the solar power market.

One of the project’s three pilots will be carried out in Finland at Solarigo’s Haapajärvi development project in Karpalosuo, near the Hallan industrial area. A deviation permit has been granted for the project, and a building permit is expected during the spring. The inverter to be tested will be installed in 2028, with performance monitoring starting in 2029.

The inverter developed in the project is a central inverter by Hitachi with a capacity of approximately 6 MW. The unit will be assembled in Europe, and pre-testing will be conducted by Hitachi and Turku University of Applied Sciences. The objective is to develop a high-voltage (2 kV DC), high-power solution that improves efficiency and enables more effective solar power generation.

Why the project matters

The rapid growth of solar energy increases the demand for efficient and reliable components. Inverter technology plays a key role in overall plant performance and cost-efficiency. The SUNVIBE project supports the development of European expertise and helps reduce dependency on suppliers outside the EU.

Solarigo at the forefront of development

Solarigo’s role in the project is to provide a real-life pilot environment for the new technology. Participation strengthens the company’s position as an active developer in renewable energy and offers an opportunity to access and test the latest technology at an early stage.

“We see it as important that key components of solar energy systems are developed in Europe. We want to contribute to advancing this development in practice”, says Tomi Rumpunen, Head of Project Development at Solarigo.

The SUNVIBE project supports Solarigo’s goal of advancing the energy transition by developing key technologies for solar power plants.
