Solarigo delivers Puhuri’s first solar power park in Kannus

Puhuri Oy’s subsidiary, Kannuksen Hietakangas Oy, is building a solar power park in Hietakangas, Kannus. Solarigo Systems Oy has signed an agreement with Kannuksen Hietakangas Oy for the full turnkey delivery of the 5 MWp solar power park. This will be the first solar installation for the Puhuri Group — but, according to CEO Tuomas Ylimaula, certainly not the last.

“Solar energy is rapidly emerging alongside wind power as a key form of renewable energy. Our goal is to harness the synergy that comes from combining wind and solar production. Generally, days with little wind tend to be ideal for solar power generation, and vice versa,” says Ylimaula.

“By adding solar power alongside our wind farms, we can balance production fluctuations and increase our clean energy capacity,” he continues.

Puhuri currently has several hundred megawatts of solar power projects under development. The planned solar parks will be located on land owned by the company.

Turnkey solar park delivery

The Hietakangas solar power park will consist of more than 8,000 bifacial solar panels, with a total capacity of 5 MWp.

“Building and operating large-scale solar parks is one of Solarigo’s core strengths. We’re delighted to collaborate with Puhuri and bring our experience from hybrid power plant projects to this partnership,” says Antti Koskelainen, CEO of Solarigo.

Electricity will be transmitted via two 33 kV substations through underground cables to the substation of Puhuri’s subsidiary-owned Kaukanen wind farm.

Project development for the solar power park has been ongoing since 2021. Construction work, including earthworks and foundations, is expected to begin later this year. Cable installations and equipment deliveries are scheduled for early 2024, with commercial operation targeted by the end of 2024. The park’s planned operational lifetime is 30 years.

The building permit for the solar park is legally valid, and the park will be built on land owned by Kannuksen Hietakangas Oy.
