Solarigo and Byhmgard advance 50 MW battery storage project in Finland

Solarigo Systems Oy and Swedish Byhmgard AB have signed an agreement for the acquisition of the project rights to the 50 MW Hitura battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Nivala, Finland. The project has been developed by Callio-Hitura Solarpark Oy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Solarigo.

The Hitura battery storage project is expected to reach ready-to-build stage during 2026, with commissioning planned for late 2027. Under the agreement, Byhmgard will acquire the project rights and take the project forward towards construction.

The transaction is part of the cooperation between Solarigo and Byhmgard to develop battery storage projects in Finland. It marks an important milestone in the companies’ partnership and supports Byhmgard’s ambition to build a 1 GW battery storage portfolio in Europe, with Finland and the Baltics as priority markets.

“Moving from letter of intent to binding agreements in just over a month demonstrates the strength of the collaboration between Byhmgard and Solarigo. Hitura is a high-quality asset in one of our priority markets and confirms the business model we have built and refined over recent years,” says Christian Byhmer, CEO of Byhmgard.

“Energy storage will play an increasingly important role in balancing the Nordic power system. We are pleased to contribute to this transition together with our committed partner Byhmgard. Signing the project agreement marks an important milestone in our expanding cooperation and demonstrates Solarigo’s ability to develop high-quality, investment-ready battery storage projects in Finland,” says Antti Koskelainen, CEO of Solarigo.

As the share of weather-dependent renewable electricity generation increases, battery storage provides much-needed flexibility to the power system. For Solarigo, the project represents another concrete step forward as a developer of battery storage and hybrid energy solutions in Finland.
