Solarigo acquires Skarta Energy’s stake in the Pyhäsalmi Mine utility-scale solar park

Solarigo Systems and Skarta Energy have agreed on a corporate transaction through which the ownership of Finland’s first mining area solar park, the Callio Solar Park at the Pyhäsalmi mine, will be fully transferred to Solarigo Systems. The Callio Solar Park is a joint project between Solarigo Systems, Skarta Energy, the City of Pyhäjärvi, and the Pyhäsalmi mine, constructed on a decommissioned and filled tailings pond of the Pyhäsalmi mine. Commercial electricity production at the Callio solar park began in June 2025.
Solarigo Systems has had 30% ownership of the project company, and with the transaction, will acquire Skarta Energy’s 70% shareholding in the project company Callio-Hitura Solarpark Oy by the end of March 2026. Solarigo Systems will continue as the owner and operator of the 13 MWp utility-scale solar park at the Pyhäsalmi mine, supplying solar electricity to the mine and further developing the project company by constructing an energy storage facility alongside the Callio solar park. Both the solar power plant and the energy storage facility will participate in the reserve markets operated by Finland’s transmission system operator, Fingrid.
“We started developing the Callio solar power plant and energy storage project together with Skarta, Callio Pyhäjärvi, the City of Pyhäjärvi, and the Pyhäsalmi mine in 2021. Now that the solar park has been completed, Solarigo will continue the project with the implementation and operation of the energy storage facility. A solar park combined with storage fits very well into Solarigo’s existing portfolio,” says Antti Koskelainen, CEO of Solarigo Systems.
“The Callio solar park in Pyhäsalmi, with a capacity of 13 MWp, is better suited to be operated as a whole by a single operator due to its scale. Callio was a valuable addition to Solarigo Systems’ portfolio, making the decision an easy one for both parties,” says Mika Paloranta, CEO of Skarta Energy.
Launched in June 2025, the Callio solar park is Finland’s first solar park built on a mining site. The innovative project, initiated in 2021, aimed to create a model for utilizing decommissioned mining areas for solar power production.
The Callio solar park is part of the broader Callio-Hitura project, owned by the project company Callio-Hitura Solarpark Oy. The project also includes a solar park and energy storage project at the Hitura mine in Nivala, with implementation decisions to be made at a later stage. The Callio solar park and energy storage project have been funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment through the EU’s Next Generation financial recovery package.
