SUN
FOR SHOPS
Citycon is the first big customer of Solarigo, founded in 2015, which required trust from both parties. The choice of Citycon fell on Solarigo above all because of the salesman's expertise and professionalism - Solarigo really knew what they were talking about. This is how Citycon and Solarigo were able to start a long-term cooperation in the design of a greener shopping center.
BEHIND EVERYTHING IS THE CUSTOMER
Citycon decided on renewable energy as part of its responsibility program. Responsibility and ecology are of great importance to customers, because according to research, up to 89% of Finns want more solar electricity*. This tells us that renewable energy is a particularly important value for Finns, and that is why visitors are actively informed about the use of solar electricity. For the shopping center's customers, ecology is more than just a buzzword, as solar energy directly benefits the customers, for example in the form of cooling during the summer months.
Solarigo's solar power plant produces emission-free electricity for up to 35 years. This is why it is important that the cooperation with the power plant's developer and maintenance works perfectly. Citycon's trust in Solarigo is shown by the fact that the Lappeenranta shopping center IsoKristiina has also received its own power plant and the next one will be delivered to the Vuosaari shopping center Columbus.
CHOOSING A SUPPLIER FOR SOLAR SOLUTION
Citycon appreciates Solarigo's operational readiness and the longevity of the systems, because they are of great importance to the profitability of the investment. The maintenance service offered by Solarigo keeps the system in good condition and, at best, guarantees decades of operation. When the shopping center's 2,000 solar panels produce the same amount of energy as the electricity of 230 apartment buildings per year, the service and maintenance must be high-quality and fast. The structures of Iso Omena, the requirements of the architects and the complications caused by the surrounding residential buildings brought bumps in the road during the installation phase, but Solarigo survived the demanding test with honors.
The introduction of solar electricity has been positively reflected in the certificates received by Citycon. The extension part of Iso Omena has been granted the highest possible platinum level LEED environmental certificate and in 2019 the shopping center achieved top marks in the evaluation of the BREEAM certificate. The introduction of renewable energy has accelerated Citycon's achievements in creating a more environmentally friendly shopping center. All of this brings transparency to Citycon's operations and helps the customer to choose an environmentally friendly way even when visiting the shopping center on a daily basis.

Iso Omena became a shopping center in 2016, where business is done using renewable solar energy. The shopping centre's elevators and escalators are powered by the energy produced by the own solar power plant, and customers can also use solar energy at the mobile phone charging station. For Citycon, which operates the shopping center, cooperation with Solarigo has been effortless, and the technically high-quality system has ensured that the equipment is long-lasting and the benefit to the shopping center and its entrepreneurs is essential.
